That’s perfectly fine! Clients who are unsure or not quite ready to explore mental health treatment interventions with psychotropic medications have the opportunity to discuss safe non-pharmacological interventions with the provider at the time of evaluation.
All new and established clients are safely evaluated to determine the appropriate level of care needed at the time of evaluation.
All clients are assisted with building a healthy foundation to their new mental health treatment plan with non-pharmacological treatment interventions (sleep hygiene, lifestyle modifications, exercise, coping skills, support system building, physical health evaluations, and etc.)
During the formal treatment planning session, the provider will provide detailed psychoeducation about the client’s new diagnosis.
At that time, the client and provider will begin discussing and developing an individualized treatment plan that is tailored to meet the client’s presenting mental health needs.
When appropriate, medication management will be discussed with the client if there is a need to safely stabilize and manage worsening mental health symptoms.

Yes, Duo Mental Health accepts direct new client referrals from other mental health providers for adult clients in Delaware and Pennsylvania (ages 18-65).
How do begin the referral process for my client?Referring providers have the option to directly refer their clients to Duo Mental Health’s website to book their free 15-minute consultation.
Once the client has booked their initial 15-minute consultation, the client will receive a formal email notification for a reminder of their scheduled consultation session.
Referring providers may also contact Duo Mental Health directly via email: info@duomentalhealth.com to schedule a brief collaborative care consultation call or virtual session prior to referring their established client.
How do I know if Duo Mental Health offers the right care for my client?
To assist with a safe, timely, and appropriate level of care referral process, Duo Mental Health recommend referring providers to please review the following referral factors:
Before referring your client for an initial 15-minute consultation session, please ensure that your client is a permanent resident and resides full-time in the states of Delaware or Pennsylvania at the time of the referral.
The provider will not be able to offer mental health consultations, formal psychiatric evaluations, or treatment interventions for clients who are not residents of DE or PA.
Please ensure that the care your client is seeking is a service or specialty that is offered at Duo Mental Health prior to referral process.
Duo Mental Health does not offer acute higher level of care services/interventions or same day walk-in appointments.
It is strongly recommended that the referring provider perform an independent safety assessment prior to considering Duo Mental Health as a referral option for their client’s current mental health needs.
Duo Mental Health does not offer acute higher level of care interventions for new clients who are experiencing active severe mental health symptoms such as:
Active suicidal ideations
Active or recent self-harming behaviors within the past month
CSSRS: Moderate Risk or High Risk
PHQ9 Score of 15-27 (moderately severe to severe depressive symptoms)
GAD7 Score of 15-21 (severe anxiety symptoms)
Active danger to self or others
Marked mental health impairments or severe change from their baseline mental health status
If your client is presenting with any of the above safety risk factors at the time of consideration for referral, Duo Mental Health kindly recommend referring providers to please advocate for a higher level of care setting (call/text 988, local crisis center or emergency department) for immediate acute psychiatric evaluation.
My established client was safely referred to Duo Mental Health for care, what’s next?
Once your client has been safely evaluated and a treatment plan has been formulated, Duo Mental Health encourages continued therapeutic collaboration with the referring provider/practice.
All newly referred clients will have the option to provide consent for a formal release of information document to remain on file for continued collaborative care sessions between mutual providers.
All referring providers are welcome to communicate and collaborate with a Duo Mental Health provider with consent from the mutual client.
